No — this is one of the most persistent myths in skincare and it's simply not true. Vellus hair (peach fuzz) regrows at its natural color, thickness, and rate after dermaplaning. The hair may feel slightly different growing back because the previous hair was tapered at the tip and the new hair is blunt-cut — but it doesn't grow back darker, thicker, or coarser. The myth comes from confusing vellus hair (peach fuzz) with terminal hair (thick body hair), which behave differently when shaved.

You can buy "dermaplane razors" online for $10–$30, but they're meaningfully different from professional dermaplaning. At-home tools use flat-blade razors (not surgical scalpels), aren't sterile, and don't allow for the precise angle and pressure technique that medical-grade dermaplaning provides. They can also cause nicks, irritation, and uneven results. Professional dermaplaning delivers far better results and is significantly safer.

Dermaplaning is not recommended for clients with active acne because the scalpel could potentially spread bacteria or irritate existing pimples. For acne-prone skin, we recommend chemical peels (specifically VI Peel Purify), Forever Clear BBL laser, or SkinPen microneedling instead. Once your acne is under control, dermaplaning becomes a great maintenance treatment.
